In Wisconsin, window tint laws are based on Visible Light Transmission (VLT), the percentage of light that passes through your vehicle’s windows. Legal VLT limits vary depending on the type of vehicle and which windows are being tinted.

Windshield: You’re allowed to apply non-reflective window tint above the manufacturer’s AS-1 line only.

Front Side Windows: Tint must allow more than 50% of visible light to pass through (50% VLT or higher).

Back Side Windows: Tint must allow more than 35% of visible light (35% VLT or higher).

Rear Window: The rear window must also allow more than 35% visible light transmission.
